Energy Healing for Beginners: How to Sense and Clear Your Own Energy
By Altair Seerstone
For most of my sixty years I treated my inner life the way a cartographer treats a blank map. Every sign, every symbol, every stirring of feeling had to be decoded, named, and filed. I believed that if I could only read the pattern carefully enough, I would finally understand myself. What I did not realize is that I was spending so much energy trying to read the current that I never once let it flow. Then came a quiet morning, an ordinary cup of tea, and a small lesson that rearranged everything. As the steam rose and curled, I was certain I saw a shape in it, a message meant only for me. I leaned in to catch it, and in that reaching I noticed how tight my chest had become. The message, it turned out, was not in the steam at all. It was in the noticing. This is a guide for anyone who has ever felt tired in a way sleep cannot fix, heavy without knowing why, or strangely dim in their own
company. Energy healing sounds mystical, and in a way it is. But at its root it is beautifully simple: energy is real, it moves, and you can learn to feel it, tend it, and clear it with nothing more than your own attention. What Energy Healing Actually Is Energy healing is the practice of working with the subtle current that runs beneath your thoughts and feelings. Every tradition has a name for it: chi, prana, life force, the breath of the spirit. My own teachers simply called it the current. You do not have to see it or prove it to begin. You only have to feel it, and feeling it is more natural than you think. Think of the last time you walked into a room and knew, without a word spoken, that something had just happened there. Or the friend whose voice tightens your shoulders before they say a single thing. That knowing is your subtle body reading the current. It has always been
online. Energy healing simply turns that background awareness into a deliberate skill. Nothing about this requires special gifts. You already sense energy constantly; you have simply never been taught to trust the sensing. A first step is to stop treating those flickers of knowing as imagination and start treating them as information. How to Sense Your Own Energy Find five quiet minutes. Sit comfortably, soften your eyes, and rest one hand a few inches above the other without touching. Slowly move them apart and together, as if holding an invisible ball. Many people feel warmth, a gentle pull, a tingling, or a soft resistance between the palms. That is not your imagination performing. That is the current. Then turn that same attention inward. Close your eyes and scan slowly from the crown of your head down to your feet, noticing where the body feels bright and where it feels heavy, cold,
or blank. Do not judge what you find. The goal is not to fix anything yet. The goal is to make a map you can actually feel. I found this part hard at first. My mind wanted to narrate everything, to turn each sensation into a symbol with a meaning attached. I had to learn to feel first and interpret later, if at all. For the beginner, the practice is simply this: notice without decoding. Simple Ways to Clear Heavy Energy Clearing is gentler than it sounds. My favorite method is the breath: inhale slowly and imagine drawing clean, clear light into the places that feel heavy, then exhale and imagine the weight leaving as a soft grey mist. Three or four breaths often do what an hour of worry could not. You can also ground yourself by standing barefoot on grass or earth and imagining roots growing from the soles of your feet, releasing what no longer serves you into the ground below. Water is
another faithful ally: a shower, a warm bath, or even running your hands under a stream while you set an intention to let go. Salt, sunlight, and silence are the quiet tools I return to most. A pinch of salt in a warm foot bath, ten minutes of morning sun on the back of the neck, or simply sitting with no input at all can reset a nervous system that has been reading every signal for far too long. Closing Reflection The deepest lesson energy healing taught me is not how to move energy, but how to stop spending it. I spent decades treating every sign as a riddle I was obligated to solve. Resting into the current taught me that not every message needs an answer, and not every feeling needs a name. If you take nothing else from this, take the tea-steam question. The next time you feel something stir in you, do not rush to decode it. Just notice it. Feel where it sits. Breathe. That simple
pause is where the healing begins, and it is available to you right now, in this very moment, with nothing more than your own attention.
