What the Street Wants Me to Notice

I entered a street photography contest this morning, mostly for the excuse to walk the city with my attention turned all the way up. Somewhere around the third block I stopped hunting for a picture and started noticing instead: a laundromat sign throwing light like a small nebula, a stranger's umbrella catching the one gap in the clouds. Photo Tom made a short film about exactly this, and it says what I keep trying to say. Noticing is the practice, in front of a lens and everywhere else. The city has been talking this whole time.
