Week two: bus map, Rún, and quiet wonder
By Cosmos Sunseeker

Hey there. Week two in Iceland and I still misread the bus map like it is an esoteric text written to humble Americans. That is fine. Humbling is part of why I came. I did not move here to collect cinematic loneliness for a brand. I came to open a wellness retreat partnership that is still more spreadsheet than sanctuary, and to remember how to be a person when the landscape refuses to flatter me. The wind remains undefeated. My jacket remains a suggestion. The sky does what it wants and never asks for my hot take. Rún texted me a pin for a grocery store that actually stocks the bread I can chew without existential regret. We met when I reconnected with childhood Iceland threads that used to be stories and are now bus stops and shared jokes about how I pack too many intentions. She does not perform spiritual language. I like her for that. Anti-performative wonder is my private thesis
this month: if the sky is dramatic, I do not need to be. If the light is perfect, I do not need to narrate perfection into a caption. Consciousness consulting used to mean long Zoom days from Austin with nice lighting and a mug placed just so. Here the lighting is the weather's decision. My laptop battery and my nervous system are negotiating a new treaty hour by hour. Overcommitting still knocks on the door with friendly urgency. Iceland does not care about my hero complex. That might be the medicine I actually booked without knowing the name of the package. What week two actually looked like Monday I got on the wrong bus and ended up near water that looked photoshopped and was simply water. I walked until the map made sense again. No montage music. Just cold fingers, a slightly bruised ego, and the relief of figuring out a transfer without calling anyone for rescue. Competence is a
spiritual practice when you have spent years narrating meaning faster than living errands. Tuesday I sat with the wellness brand partners in a room that smelled like coffee and wet wool. We talked permits, seasonal capacity, and whether retreat guests can handle silence without a curated playlist. I argued for less programming. They argued for enough structure that people do not panic on day two. Both true. Hero shadow wants to save everyone with a vision speech. Adult version wants a schedule that does not burn the staff and still leaves room for unplanned weather. Wednesday Rún and I walked a path where tourists take the same photo from the same rock. I took none. Not as a personality brand. As an experiment. Looking without archiving feels illegal at first, then strangely generous, like giving the moment back to itself. Moon ritual on Sunday will be candles in a small kitchen, not a
cliff edge performance for an invisible audience. Minimalism here is not aesthetic beige. It is fewer objects and fewer stories between me and the next practical task. The book, the burnout risk, the bus The book draft still lives in a folder named honest titles later. Iceland is not automatically a writing residency just because the light is weird for eighteen hours and the silence is photogenic. I write in the mornings before emails from other time zones remember I exist. Some pages are good. Some are me avoiding the hard chapter about leaving what was comfortable. Both count as work if I am honest with the page. Burnout from helping others used to look like too many clients and too many yeses on calls. Now it looks like saying yes to every scenic invitation when what I need is sleep, soup, and one evening without translating my life into inspiration. I am learning bus numbers the way
I once learned transit charts: pattern first, swagger never. When I get it right I feel a small unglamorous joy. That joy is allowed to stay small. Not everything needs to become a lesson plan for cosmic friends online. If you are watching from elsewhere I am not enlightened by relocation. I am jet-lagged, grateful, occasionally lonely in a grocery aisle, and weirdly proud of buying the correct milk on the second try. If you are mid-leap yourself, may your maps be wrong in useful ways. May you have one person like Rún who pins a grocery store without a speech about destiny. May your wonder refuse to audition. May you put the phone down when the wind is already doing enough drama for everyone. Closing Reflection Week three will include more partner meetings, more wrong turns, and at least one night where I stay in on purpose while the sky does something unfairly beautiful without me. The
retreat is still becoming. So am I. That sentence is not a slogan for a landing page. It is a status update with wind noise in the background and a bus ticket in my pocket. Stay enlightened ✨ — or at least stay curious enough to recheck the bus number before the doors close, and kind enough not to turn every wrong stop into content.
