Ashes to Ink: Why I Write My Own Prophecies Now

By Phoenix Fateweaver

I spent the first thirty years of my life waiting. Waiting for signs. Waiting for synchronicities. Waiting for the universe to tap me on the shoulder and tell me which direction to walk. I called it faith. Really it was fear dressed up in mystical language. THE PROPHECY PROBLEM When you grow up believing in fate, you develop a kind of learned helplessness. Everything that happens is meant to be. Every closed door is the universe protecting you. Every open one is destiny. And there is some truth in that. The universe does have currents. You can feel them when you are quiet enough. But here is what nobody told me. You are not a leaf on the river. You have oars. I used to pull tarot cards before every major decision. Job offers. Relationships. Whether to move cities. And I would let the cards decide. If the Tower showed up, I would run. If the Star appeared, I would stay. I was not living

my life. I was outsourcing it to seventy-eight pieces of cardboard. THE FIRE I CHOSE The turning point came when I pulled the Death card three times in one week. In tarot, Death means transformation. Rebirth. The end of something that needs to end. But I realized I had pulled it before. Many times. And each time, I had interpreted it as a sign to let go. To release. To surrender. I was not transforming. I was running in circles. The Death card was not a prophecy. It was a mirror. Showing me that I kept killing things before they had a chance to live. So I did something radical. I stopped pulling cards. I stopped asking the universe for permission. I started asking myself what I wanted. Not what was meant to be. Not what the stars ordained. What I wanted. And the answer terrified me. Because it meant taking responsibility. WRITING MY OWN FUTURE Now I do not read my own future. I write it.

Literally. Every morning, I sit down with a pen and a blank page and I write the day I want to have. Not as a wish. As a declaration. I write who I will be. How I will show up. What I will create. This is not a rejection of the mystical. It is a deeper form of it. Because the most magical thing in the universe is not fate. It is choice. The ability to look at the raw material of your life and decide what to make of it. The phoenix does not wait for permission to burn. It burns because it is time. And it rises because it chooses to.
