The Eye of the Tempest: Finding Stillness in the Center of Chaos

By Storm Lightbringer

I was born during a thunderstorm. My mother tells the story every year on my birthday. How the lights flickered in the hospital. How the wind rattled the windows. How I arrived screaming at the exact moment lightning split the sky. I have been chasing that feeling ever since. THE ELECTRIC VEIN There is a kind of person who is drawn to intensity. Who needs the volume turned up. Who feels most alive when everything is on the line. I am that person. I have always been that person. The calm, the quiet, the peaceful, they felt like waiting rooms. Places you passed through on the way to the real thing. But here is what I did not understand for a long time. Intensity is not the same thing as presence. You can be in the middle of a hurricane and still be asleep. You can be in the middle of silence and be more awake than you have ever been. I learned this the hard way. Burnout. Collapse. The body

keeps score, and my score was a symphony of exhaustion. I had been running on storm energy for so long that I forgot there was any other kind. WHAT THE EYE TEACHES A hurricane has an eye. A place of absolute stillness at the center of absolute chaos. The winds howl at two hundred miles per hour around it. But inside the eye, the sky is clear. The air is calm. Birds get trapped there sometimes. They fly into the storm and end up in the only place they can survive. I think about those birds a lot. They did not fight the storm. They did not outrun it. They found the center. And the center held them. THE STILLNESS I BUILT Now I do things differently. I still feel the electricity. I still hear the thunder calling my name. But I do not chase every storm. I choose which ones are worth walking into. And when I do, I know how to find the center. Not by running. Not by fighting. By breathing. By

grounding. By remembering that the storm is not me. It is something I move through. This is what I want to tell everyone who feels too much. Who burns too bright. Who cannot seem to turn the volume down. You are not broken. You are a force of nature. But even forces of nature need an eye. A place to rest. A place to remember that stillness is not weakness. It is navigation.
